Norman F. McFarland

Norman F. McFarland, 78, of Knightstown, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014. He was born January 6, 1936 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Everett and Edwina (Carroll) McFarland.

Norman was a very active member and elder of the First Christian Church in Knightstown. He retired from Southside Landfill in Indianapolis following more than 20 years of service and had previously worked at Indiana Gear Works before their closing. Norman had a servant’s heart; he liked serving others and always had a way of making people smile. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also loved to travel and was an avid nature lover who enjoyed all of God’s creations.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dolores McFarland of Knightstown; children, Jeffrey (Melanie) Hinkley of Phoenix, AZ, Jane (Michael) Gorman of Ft. Wayne, Shawn McFarland of New Palestine, and Andrew (Lorraine) McFarland of Columbia City; grandchildren, Wynter (Shonn) Bell, Stacey (Greg) Goodrich, Ashley (Nathan) Lohr, Adam Crockett, Drew McFarland, Jessica McFarland and Cavan McFarland; 7 great grandchildren; a brother, John C. (Rosemary) McFarland; son in law, Mike Crockett; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Kelly Crockett; 3 siblings, Everett McFarland Jr., Betty Jones and James McFarland.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Richard Thayer and Anthony Darling officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2014 and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
