Odessa V. Martin, 80, of Greensboro passed away Monday, June 4, 2018 at Reid Hospital in Richmond. She was born March 23, 1938 in West Virginia to the late David and Anna Black.
She retired from Modernfold Corp. in 1994 after 25 years of service. Odessa had attended the Church of God and enjoyed painting and bowling. She and her husband, Gene, spent many winters in Florida where she was involved in plays.
She is survived by three children, Theresa Sexton of Greensboro, Phillip Eugene (Tammy) Martin of Muncie and Paula (James) Durham of Richmond; seven grandchildren: Joshua and Miles Sexton, Phillip Eugene Martin II, Tabitha Martin, Derek, Ethan and Chase Crane; thirteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a sister: Gladys Snipes of Morehead, KY; three brothers: David “DJ” Black of Rensselaer, Arlie (Katie) Black of Remington and Roger (Sharon) Black of Morehead, KY; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene “Gene Big Daddy” Martin; a son-in-law: Tony Crane; three brothers: James, Raymond and Virl Black, two sisters: Marie Johnson and Diane Mabry; and an infant sister.
Services will be at 3:30 P.M. Friday, June 8, 2018 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Jr. Maloyed officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens.
