Opal Fellers

Opal Fellers, 88, a resident of New Castle passed away Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Stonebrooke Rehab Center. She was born June 16, 1938 in Vroman, Colorado to the late James Aniceto and Apolonia Luera.A retired school teacher, Opal taught middle school in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

She went on to teach Spanish, history and math at Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Opal was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed making costumes for the schools plays.

She is survived by a son: Terrence Gallegos of New Castle; a granddaughter: Julie Salano of Santa Fe, New Mexico and several nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Keith L. Fellers; three brothers and a sister.
