Kay E. Baker passed away peacefully after a short, but courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of her family. She went to be with the Lord, leaving behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and unwavering love for those around her.
Kay was born to Beth L. Pyrtle (Gibson) and the late Ivan B. Gibson. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who touched countless lives throughout her journey.
She is survived by her mother; sons, David L. Baker III (Kara), Christopher R. Baker (Barbara), and Keith W. Jordan; her brothers, Ivan Gibson and Willard Gibson; grandchildren, Robert Service, Jason Cook, Ryan Baker, Aubrey Charles, Kennard Baker, Adam Baker, Mitchell Wright, and her special granddaughter, Everleigh Baker; and other loved ones who will forever cherish her memory.
For the last 25 years, Kay dedicated her life to caring for children and families at Riley Children’s Hospital, where she worked on 8 West. She deeply loved her work family and found great purpose in helping others through some of life’s most difficult moments. Her kindness and compassion made a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Outside of work, Kay found her greatest joy in spending time with her family, especially attending her granddaughter’s school events and cheering her on in all she did. Kay loved painting, playing games, music, and passionately cheering for the Indianapolis Colts every chance she got.
Kay will be remembered for her strength, sense of humor, caring heart, and the love she gave so freely to others. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. You may express condolences or share a memory of Kay at www.hinsey-brown.com.
