Phyllis Jean Beatty, 90, of New Castle, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026. She was born on January 1, 1936, in Lincoln, Illinois, to the late Earl (Northa) Stockton and Charlotte (Louis) Brodnan.
At just one year old, Phyllis won the Illinois State Fair Cutest Baby Award—an early glimpse of the joy she would bring to others throughout her life.
Phyllis spent her childhood in Lincoln, Mt. Pulaski, Chicago, and Knightstown. She worked at RCA in Indianapolis, Berma in Greenfield, and Parker School in New Castle, where her love for children and helping others shone brightly. In her later years, she lived in Tampa, Florida, cherishing time with family and friends in the Sunshine State and taking her grandchildren to the beach. She eventually returned to New Castle to be closer to loved ones, where she regularly attended Cornerstone Church. Phyllis enjoyed puzzles, cooking, and working with children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Beatty; her mother, Charlotte (Louis) Brodnan; her father, Earl (Northa) Stockton; her brother, Joe Stockton; and her daughters, Robin Pugh, Pamela Pugh, and Candy Pollitt and her son‑in‑law, Melvin Manning.
She is survived by her sister, Sharon (Greg) Asbury; her brother, Steve Brodnan; her sons, Scott Pugh, Doyle (Penny) Beatty, and Wade (Peggy) Beatty; her daughter, Judy Manning; grandchildren, Shane (Danielle) Benjamin, Sean (Noah) Benjamin, Jamie Beatty, Brandi (Justin) Small Breonna (Issac) Davis, and Crystal Wells; and great‑grandchildren Vinson Benjamin, Macey Vicars, Kennedy Vicars, along with several nieces, nephews, and other great‑grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the Phyllis J. Beatty Memorial Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. You may express condolences or share a memory of Phyllis at www.hinsey-brown.com.
