Phyllis Jean Hannon

Phyllis Jean Hannon, 89, of New Castle passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025 at her residence. She was born December 30, 1935 in Muncie, Indiana to the late George and Clara (McCaslin) Padgett.

Phyllis was an avid NASCAR fan and loved Jeff Gordon. Phyllis also loved snow birding in Florida with her husband, Bill Hannon. In her spare time, she enjoyed working with ceramics, shopping, going to flea markets and babysitting.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Don F. (Kathy) Purnell and Bill (Gaylena) Hannon Jr.; grandchildren: Ryan Purnell, Larry Shipley, Matthew (Kim) and Mark (Lizza) Hannon and Miranda (Tony) Parrish; great grandchildren; Jakob and Sydney Hannon, Alexis Shipley, Caden and Coley Parrish and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Hannon; a daughter, Sandra “Sandy” Shipley; her grandsons, Eric T. Purnell and Brock Shipley; siblings, Joyce, Nalla, David, Sonny and Bill.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Phyllis’s caregivers, Kat Throneburg, Sheryl Justice and the amazing staff at Southern Care Hospice.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00. p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Gardens of Memory in Muncie.
