Reverend Charles “Chuck” Mason Snyder Jr., age 82, of Joliet, Illinois, passed from this earthly life on Saturday, April 25th, 2026. Although his passing was unexpected, he fulfilled the goal he had devoted many years of his life to achieving.
Brother Snyder was born August 20th, 1943, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to the late Charles Mason Snyder Sr. and Florence Matilda (Miller) Snyder. A 1961 graduate of Vine Grove High School in Vine Grove, Kentucky, he was fond of the outdoors and reading, particularly books about the military and U.S. history. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting, especially with his family and friends. He took several trips to Canada and out west to fish for walleye and trout and hunt for deer, mule deer, elk, moose, and bear. His other hobbies included working with leather and alligator hides to make Bible cases and purses. He worked construction and was a skilled brickmason in the Indianapolis area, but his heart was always in preaching, evangelizing, and ministering God’s word.
A resident of Shelbyville, Indiana, for many years, he was introduced to the Apostolic faith in October 1964, and a few months later, he received the gift of the Holy Ghost on April 11th, 1965. He would frequently recount how fortunate he and his family were to be a part of the Church. He attended Apostolic Tabernacle in Shelbyville for many years, pastored by the late Elder Caveness. He devoted his life to preaching the gospel, and he and his family moved to Bluefield, West Virginia, to pastor a church there from 1977 to 1980. A few years later, he again pastored a church in Malone, Florida from 1987 to 2005, after which he evangelized, preaching revivals and special services in many churches across the entire U.S. until his retirement in 2025, when he became a faithful member of Calvary Apostolic Church in Romeoville, Illinois until his passing. He was a blessing to many churches, both spiritually and by working on many church buildings whenever help was needed. Brother Snyder loved the Apostolic doctrine like nothing else and exuded faithfulness and constancy to the very end!
His memory is cherished by his wife of 62 years, Norma Jean (Taylor) Snyder, whom he married August 24th, 1963; three children, David Snyder, Pat (Fred) Galarza, and Beth (Mike) Williams; six grandchildren, Cameron Snyder, Laura (Daniel) Cogbill, Alyssa (Josh) Smith, Kendall (Faith) Galarza, Mason (Kaela) Galarza, and Cason Williams; and six great-grandchildren, Claire, Emily, Bentley, Cody, Melaya, and Ralph. He is also loved by his three brothers, Jim (Patsy) Snyder, Ron (Terry) Snyder, and Louis (Meredith) Snyder; sister-in-law, Joyce Snyder; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Edward Snyder and Robert Snyder.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 PM (Central Time) on Monday, May 4th, 2026, at Calvary Apostolic Church located at 16 Baker Circle, Romeoville, Illinois. Funeral services will be at 12 PM noon (Central Time) at Calvary Apostolic Church on Tuesday, May 5th, 2026, with Elder Kent Jordan officiating. Graveside services will be at 1 PM (Eastern Time) on Wednesday, May 6th, 2026, at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, Indiana. Anyone wishing to join the procession to the cemetery on Wednesday may gather at the First Church of Pentecost located at 1500 Miller Avenue, Shelbyville, Indiana, at 12 PM noon (Eastern Time); the procession will leave the church at approximately 12:30 PM.
