Rhonda J. Matthews

Rhonda J. Matthews, 68, of New Castle passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2026 unexpectedly following a short illness. She was born May 11, 1958, in Baltimore, Maryland and was the daughter of the late Harry and Jean Boyer.

Rhonda married the love of her life, Mike Matthews on Feb. 1, 1974. She was the mother of Emily Amburgey of Indianapolis and Paul Matthews (Morgan)of McCordsville, and grandmother of Riley and Lillian Amburgey and Dexter and Violet Lucille Matthews. Rhonda’s greatest joy was being “Mimi” to her grandchildren, being always there for them – caring for them and supporting them in life and all their endeavors.

A member of the New Castle High School Class of 1976, Rhonda worked in several capacities in administrative roles at Indiana Precision Technology (now Keihin), Heritage House, Magna Power Train and including office manager for Child Support of Henry County. In her free time, she could always be found supporting her grandchildren in all of their many activities and being a good neighbor. She enjoyed vacations to Florida, girlfriend shopping trips, card club, bowling in her younger years and being a member of White Estates Pool, where she loved to take her grandchildren.

Rhonda grew up going to First Christian Church with her parents and always considered that as her home church. She could be found nearly every year attending her favorite service on Christmas Eve, sharing her faith with family members and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Mike Matthews; daughter, Emily Amburgey and son Paul Matthews; four grandchildren, brother-in-law, Duane Matthews and his wife, Beverly, sister-in-law, Billie Elaine Gwinn and her husband, Tim, all of New Castle, and many dear cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Sandra Devine and her husband, Ginger, and Bill Boyer; and her in-laws, Paul Ray and Gaye Matthews.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Hinsey Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Davis officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition.
