Richard A Guffey

Richard A. Guffey, 72, of Sugarland, Texas and formerly of New Castle passed away Sunday, June 14, 2026 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 14, 1953 in Monticello, Kentucky a son of the late Cornel “Dick” H. and Flonnie M. (Marcum) Guffey.

Richard was a 1972 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School, participating in football, wrestling and track. He was an avid body builder and power lifter. Richard retired from GM Corporation after 29 years. Following retirement, he enjoyed managing RV Resorts in Arizona for eight years with his wife Joyce. He loved all football and baseball games and in his younger years was on numerous softball leagues. Richard and Joyce lived in many different states and loved traveling.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years Joyce Guffey; two sons, Richard A. “Rich” (Lori) of Sugarland, Texas and Joe (Amanda) Guffey of New Castle; two step sons Andy (Rita) Klinsbeck and Daniel (Jessica) Klinsbeck both of Missouri; four grandkids; four great grandkids; 6 step grandkids; 10 step great grandkids; 1 step great great grandson; brother, Dudley (Beverly) Guffey of New Castle; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents Richard was preceded in death by a brother, James “Jim” Clark and a step son, Thomas Klinsbeck.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
