Robert "Bob" L. McCormick

April 26, 1944 — November 25, 2023

Robert “Bob” L. McCormick, 79, of New Castle passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023 at his residence. He was born April 26, 1944 in Livingston, Tennessee to the late Carver and Beula Magdalene (Walker) McCormick.

Bob graduated from Walter P. Chrysler High School and married his high school sweetheart, Sherry Tout, in 1965. (She lovingly referred to him as “Mac” over the years.) He worked for Dana Corp. for 25 years, then pursued a degree in Maintenance and HVAC and started working for Anderson University, where he retired as the Assistant Director of the Physical Plant after 22 years. He was the go to guy when anything needed fixing or he could “jerry-rig” it until he could make it work. Bob enjoyed fishing, motorcycle riding, piddling in the garage, and traveling on many mission trips.

Bob was a devout Christian man, who loved and served God with his whole heart and soul. He loved spending summers at church camp investing in the spiritual growth of many youth. He was the youth director for many, many years and touched hundreds of lives. He was currently a member of Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church. Over the years, Bob was a Sunday school teacher, Trustee, and held various other roles in the church.

Known as “Papa” to his grandkids, he loved spending time watching them and attending all of their extra-curricular activities. He taught them lots of things in life -- how to drive, fish, check the oil in the car, hammer nails, paint, but most importantly, he showed them how to love Jesus.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sherry (Tout) McCormick; daughters, Karmen (Mike) McKillip and Allison (Scott) Stroud; grandchildren, Morgan McKillip (Ray Antrim), Brooke (Chad) McRoberts, Austin (Emily) Stroud, Lauren Stroud (Nate Kimball), Grace Stroud (Mason Muncy), great grandchildren, Jalynn McRoberts and Baby K; brothers, Frank McCormick and Jerry (Carolyn) McCormick; sister-in-law, Margie McCormick, Mary Tout and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Candice Ann McCormick; infant granddaughter, Emily Kay Stroud; siblings, Jim McCormick, Sue (George) Wilson; Keith McCormick; mother-in-law, Gladys Tout; brother-in-law, Norman Tout and dear friend, Earl DeWayne Raines.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Steve Arnett officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery. The visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, December 1st at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church Missions, the Henry County Foster Closet (through First Christian Church) or Henry County Pregnancy Care Center.
