Robert Leon Whitfield

Robert Leon Whitfield, 89, of Carthage passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born March 28, 1932 in Carthage the son of Henry and Essie (Craven) Whitfield.
Robert was raised in Carthage and married Shirley Ann Todd on January 19, 1952. He retired from Delco Remy following 44 years of service. He was a very hard worker, enjoyed working in the woods and serving other people. Robert especially loved supporting the Colts and IU Basketball.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Patia (David) Ertel and Theresa (Terry) Speer and one son, Greg Whitfield (Elizabeth Harris) all of Carthage; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann (Todd) Whitfield in 2013; granddaughter, Melisa Shantel Speer; sister, Beatrice Stacey; brothers, Charles Whitfield, James Whitfield and Kenneth Whitfield.
Services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, February 7, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel. Burial will follow in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until time of service.
