Roger D. Masters, 63, of New Castle, passed away Friday, August 3, 2012 at his residence. He was born June 15, 1949 in Rowan County, KY, a son of the late Ora and Celia (Zornes) Masters.
A veteran of the U.S. Marines Corps, Roger served in the Vietnam War. He was a union pipefitter/welder for many years. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid NASCAR fan.
Survivors include two sons, Roger (fiancé, Elizabeth Raymond) Masters of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and J.R. (wife, Shandi) Masters of West Hamlin, WV; four grandchildren, Zoe B. Masters, Abigail Gloria Masters, Elaine Rose Masters, and Isabelle Jean Masters; three brothers, Virgil Masters of Mansfield, OH, Art Masters and Paul Masters, both of New Castle; three sisters, Louise Ballenger of Indianapolis, Nellie Howard of Mt. Sterling, KY, June Steinly of Salt Lake City, UT; several nieces and nephews, including Chris Dummit, a very special nephew, who cared for him deeply.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Masters; two sisters, Virginia Kincaid and Maxine Dummit; seven nephews and two nieces.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Miller officiating. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #152. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the funeral home.
