Ronald James "RJ" White, a devoted public servant and cherished family man, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. Born on July 22, 1937, in Connersville, Indiana, RJ lived a life marked by dedication, hard work, and a deep love for his family and community.
RJ's career was distinguished by his 26 years of committed service with the Indiana State Police, from which he retired in 1988. Prior to his law enforcement career, he was employed at the International Furniture Company. Reflecting his adventurous spirit and connection to the land, RJ also spent many years working at a cattle ranch out west, an endeavor that spoke to his love of the outdoors and his strong work ethic.
His early years were shaped by his military service in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959, during which he was stationed in Alaska. This period of his life reflected his steadfast patriotism and courage. RJ’s connection to fraternal organizations was significant; he was a respected member of the Orange Masonic Lodge as well. His spiritual life included attendance at the Spiceland Friends Church and, formerly, the Orange United Methodist Church.
RJ had a rich array of interests that enriched his life beyond his professional and spiritual commitments. A dedicated member of the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) and the National Rifle Association (NRA), he was regarded as a skilled marksman and enthusiast. He was a passionate history buff who loved to read, and his enjoyment of horses and guns reflected his appreciation for both tradition and the open landscape. RJ’s talents extended to leather crafting, where he applied his skill to making belts and chaps, preserving a craft that connects to his western heritage. He also treasured quiet moments spent at his cabin in Wyoming, a place where he found peace and solace.
Above all, RJ was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sandra (Guerin) White, whom he married April 21, 1963;. His children, Marty (Marie) White of New Castle and Michele (Chris) Carrera of Anderson, carry forward his legacy. RJ also leaves behind five grandchildren: Dylan (Jennifer) and their children Lilliana and Alexandra, Macy, Ali, Derek, and Madyson, who were the light of his later years. His sister, Judith Morris of Connersville, and brother-in-law, Terry (Sandy) Guerin of Anderson, along with several nieces and nephews, mourn his loss and cherish his memory.
RJ was predeceased by his sister-in-law Marcia (Bob) Ash.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. A funeral service will follow at 1:00pm with Pastors Eric Bowman and David Brock officiating. Military rites will be conducted by contingents of the US Air Force, American Legion and the VFW. Burial will follow in Orange North Cemetery in Fayette County. Memorial contributions may be given to Spiceland Friends Church or to the Orange Masonic Lodge #234.
