Ruth A. Chew, age 88, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at her residence. She was born July 21, 1920 in New Castle to the late Walter and Maude (Beall) Boyd.
She attended school in New Lisbon and was a 1938 graduate of New Castle High School. She was a member of the Optimistic Sisters and was a member of the New Lisbon Christian Church. A homemaker most of her life, she loved working in her yard and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include two sons: Robert B. (wife: Gail) Stewart of New Castle and Douglas (wife: Lonnie) May of Greenfield; three stepchildren: Raymond (wife: Thelma) Chew of Straughn, Ruby (husband: Robert) Lingenfelter of Dublin and Paul (wife: Alice Jean) Chew of Bentonville; four grandchildren: Robert C. (wife: Kelley) Stewart of Anaheim, CA, John E. Stewart of Indianapolis, Christopher R. May of Greenwood and Taylor L. (husband George) Philhower of Greenfield; two great grandchildren: Jack and Elizabeth Stewart of Anaheim, CA; two step-grandchildren: Tom (wife: Charlotte) Masters of Knightstown and Gregg (wife: Sarah) Masters of Hagerstown, and several other step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands: Robert F. Stewart, Russell Henry May and Monroe Chew; a sister: Mary Boyd Rains; a granddaughter: Angela May; three step children: Ruth Reynolds, Gladys Rust Lee and John Chew.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Bill Worrell officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2008 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
