Sherri Jo Groce

Sherri Jo Groce, 62, of New Castle, passed away on June 16, 2025, in Midland, PA, while visiting her family. She was born on May 30, 1963, in New Castle, to Roy and Helen (Dick) Groce.

A proud graduate of Blue River Valley Jr/Sr High School in 1981, Sherri's pursuit of knowledge and compassion led her to study nursing at Ball State University in 1983. She ultimately graduated from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis with a degree in physical therapy in 1994. Her career flourished at the Indianapolis Veterans Hospital, where she became a source of support and healing for countless veterans.

Sherri was known for her boundless love of dogs. She opened her heart and home to many furry companions, offering them a life filled with affection and adventure. Her nurturing nature extended beyond the four-legged friends; she was always there to lend a hand to those in need, whether it was mowing lawns, doing laundry, or helping friends and family pack up their lives for new beginnings.

An advocate for living life to the fullest, Sherri found solace and joy in the outdoors. She loved music of all genres, filling her life with rhythm and beat, and introduced her sister Misty to a unique French CD that she thoroughly enjoyed, despite not being able to understand the words. Kayaking, swimming, and exploring walking trails were among her favorite pastimes, where she relished the beauty of nature and the joy it brought.

Those left to cherish her memory include her parents, Roy K. and Helen M. Groce of New Castle; siblings, Donald R. Groce of Albany, KY, David B. (Violet) Groce of Midland, PA, and Misty N. (Shannon) Tompkins of Myrtle Beach, SC; nieces and nephews, Sha Groce, Austin Tompkins, Taylor Sarten, Darrel Groce, Devon Groce, Deegan Groce, and Alaina Sarten; her beloved Rottweiler, Tessa; and a very large extended group of family and friends.

Sherri was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Arnold and Ollie Dick; her paternal grandparents, John and Josia Groce; her special aunt, Nancy Runion; and her longtime friend, Chuck Barker.

A memorial service will be held for Sherri on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 6:00 P.M. at Hinsey Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Mark Herbkersman officiating.
