Sherril "Sherry" Ann Matney

Sherril “Sherry” Ann Matney, 66, of Carthage, passed away at her residence on Thursday, April 16, 2026, following an extended illness. Sherry was born on April 8, 1960, in Rushville to Rev. Jack and Mary Ann (Campbell) Clay, who currently reside in Wilkinson.

Sherry retired from CVS Pharmacy after 35 years of dedicated service as a pharmacy technician. She was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church in Greenfield and, for the past 10 years, was a member of the Righteous Oaks Baptist Church in Warrington.

Sherry was an avid collector who especially enjoyed Beanie Babies, Longaberger baskets and most recently coins. She had a generous spirit and was known for always bringing thoughtful gifts when visiting others. She was deeply appreciative and often expressed her gratitude through handwritten thank you notes and cards of comfort.

She enjoyed grocery shopping: often spending hours in the store, loved to garden and canning, but most of all, Sherry loved her family. She especially cherished and doted on her two grandsons, Jacob and Isaac.

In addition to her parents, Sherry is survived by her Husband of 48 years, Virgil Ray Matney of Carthage; son, Virgil Ray (Shawn) Matney Jr. of Knightstown; grandchildren, Jacob and Isaac Matney both of Knightstown; siblings, Robin (Bubb) Murphy of Knightstown, Jim (Jill) Clay of Knightstown and Jack (Lori) Clay of Carthage; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sherry was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, William “Bill” and Ruby Campbell and paternal grandparents, Ollie and Dora Clay.

Services will be held at 10:00am Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastor Steve Rayburn officiating. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the funeral home.
