Shirley K. Hinshaw

Shirley K. Hinshaw, 91, of New Castle went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at The Addison Place Assisted Living. She was born on January 2, 1935 in New Castle to the late Richard B. and Florene (Rynearson) Maddy.

Shirley was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Sunny Homemakers Club, where she demonstrated her commitment to her faith and community. Her earlier years were marked by selfless volunteer work, supporting her children in every organization they were a part of, from school events to extracurricular activities. Later, she pursued a successful career, earning her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with honors and going on to become the Clinical Director at Planned Parenthood in New Castle. She also worked as the Activities Director at Heritage House and worked at the New Castle Community School Corporation. Throughout her life, Shirley's love and support for her family remained unwavering, always attending her grandchildren's events and creating lasting memories with them on special family vacations. Her tireless enthusiasm and generosity inspired those around her, leaving a lasting impact on our community and her loved ones.

She is survived by the love of her life of the last 73 years, Donald W. Hinshaw; children, Karen (Brian) Atterson, Bruce (Susan) Hinshaw and Tom (Laura) Hinshaw; grandchildren, Corey Atterson, Ashlyn Hinshaw, Claire Hinshaw, Blake (Jayde) Hinshaw, Kate Hinshaw (Matt Franz), Hanna (Michael) Wartenberg; Ethan Atterson, Luke Atterson, Max, Eli, Sam and Annie Gabovitch; several sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Jerry and Michael Maddy.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
