Shirley Richardson, 94, of Greenfield died on Friday, December 5, 2025 at her residence. She was born on May 3, 1931 in Ohio County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Fenton and Mary (Phillips) Keith. She attended schools in Ohio County, graduating from Rising Sun High School in 1949.
She married Arthur “Dee” Richardson in 1950 at the Pleasant Ridge Christian Church. They lived in Rising Sun until 1957 when they move to Lawrenceburg. In 1966, the family moved to Knightstown when Dee accepted a job in Anderson.
Shirley worked for Mayhill Publications for 20 years where she was the editor of Farmweek and served as editor of Indiana Angus News. Shirley was awarded the FFA Degree of Honorary State Farmer. In 1987, she accepted a position as news coordinator with Indiana Farm Bureau Inc. before being named Director of the Information Department. She retired from full-time work in 1994, but enjoyed working part-time for a Mayhill Publications and The Banner.
Shirley was a member of the Knightstown Christian church and served as a volunteer at the Hancock Regional Hospital for several years. After retirement, she had sold real estate. Prior to moving to Knightstown, she owned and operated a beauty shop. Organizations she had belonged to were the American Agricultural Editors Association, Newspaper Farm Editors of America, MidAmerican Chapter of the National Agricultural Marketing Association, and the state Ag Day committee and had worked with the Habitat for Humanity committee. She had served on the BZA committee for Knightstown.
She loved her family and kept busy taking care of her home, quilting, reading and also kept in touch with relatives and friends by telephone.
She has survived by two daughters: Mary Jane Hunt of Greenfield; Jo Dee Mayfield of Battleground; one son: Steven (wife Tracie) Richardson of Knightstown; six grandchildren: Elissa (husband Joe) Harding, Julie Hamm, Darcy (husband Shawn), Dildine, Shelby Pittman, Tyler (wife Hannah) Richardson and Chelsea Roland; seven great-grandchildren, Avery Cronk, Becca, Lydia and Nathanael Dildine Camden Pittman and Hudson and Saylor Richardson; one great-great grandson, Fenton Goble, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dee, in 2013, four sisters and two brothers and two sons-in-law.
Services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00am until the time of service on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Knightstown Christian Church.
