Steven J. Curless, of New Lisbon, Indiana, passed away on June 6, 2026. Born on May 2, 1953 in Richmond, Indiana, a son of the late Marvin and Joan Mills Curless. He lived a life defined by hard work, integrity, and devotion to family. Following his graduation from Winchester Community High School, Steve continued on to join the United States Air Force where he served in Thailand and Vietnam from 1971-1975. His courageous efforts included working on fighter jets, loading B-52 bombers, and maintaining nuclear weapons.
After returning the US, he met the love of his life, Jeanette, whom he married on March 14, 1981. Before retiring from Chrysler Corporation, he also worked for Major Tool & Machine and Glass Components Inc.
Steve enjoyed target shooting, fishing, gun collecting, spending time with his son and grandchildren, and vacationing with his wife. During the summer, you would more than likely find him barbequing by the pool while enjoying his family’s company.
His passing leaves a void in the lives of family and friends, but his memory will remain a source of comfort.
Steve is survived by son, Scott (Emily) Weaver, of Spiceland; his two brothers, Mike (Mandy) Curless of Winchester, Tom Curless of Muncie; his five grandchildren, Morgan (Evan) Weaver of Spiceland, Chelsea Weaver of New Castle, Logan Weaver of Cloverdale, James Rollins of Spiceland, and Randee (Nathan) Greene of Muncie; two great-grandchildren, Emersyn and Ryder; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Curless; Col. (USAF-Ret) John D. Beeson and Dr. Betty Beeson (Uncle John and Aunt Betty); Sampson and Sally, his beloved four-legged companions.
