Sue Shirrell

Sue Shirrell, 91, of New Castle passed away on Saturday April 27, 2024 at Glen Oaks. She was born on August 22, 1932 in Byrdstown, TN to the late William Lee and Esta (Rhule) Morningstar. Sue entered the Mansion over the hill top with the Pearly Gates and where the streets are made of Gold.

She worked as a house parent at the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Knightstown retiring in 1997 after many years of service. Sue attended White Branch Church. She loved quilting, making purses and Jewelry. Sue was an artist with many award-winning paintings. She enjoyed gardening, canning and kept herself busy with her many hobbies.

Sue is survived by her children, Barbara Cross, Teresa “Trudy” Locke and Steven (Rachel) Cross; grandchildren, Jama (Eric) North, Johnetta (Robert) Lambert, Jeffrey (Jill) Cross, Laura (Brian) Falcon, great grandchildren, Kristeen Lambert, Jameson North, Ashley (Logan) Pool, Alex (Hunter) North, Katie Lambert, Davis Falcon, Charlie Cross, Luke Falcon and Caroline Falcon; great- great grandchildren, Vivian Pool, Reagan Pool, Ivy North and Mack Pool; brothers, William (Diana) Lee, Larry (Jeanetta) Lee and John (Cathy) Lee; sister, Lois (Joe) Simmons; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Sue is preceded in death by a son-in-law, John Locke; sisters, Alta Seagraves and Joyce Lee.

Services will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday May 1, 2024 at Hinsey Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Dr. Brian Mackie officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition.  Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until the time of the service.
