Susan J. Clemons

Susan Clemons, 82, of Indianapolis and formerly of New Castle passed away Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Marquette Retirement Community in Indianapolis. She was born April 22, 1944 in New Castle to the late LeQue and Esther W. (Hale) Jacobs. 

She was a 1962 graduate of W.P. Chrysler High School in New Castle, Indiana. After high school, she attended Indiana University. For many years, Susan worked as a product manager for Quaker Oats in both Hendersonville, North Carolina and St. Joseph, Missouri.

Susan was a dedicated, loving, and selfless single mother. She always put her children first and worked hard to ensure they were supported and loved. Her grandchildren remember her as a devoted and adoring grandma who never failed to show up to every milestone growing up, whether big or small. From soccer games to graduations to holiday celebrations, she always showed up, in blinged out accessories, with a bag of toys and candy in hand.

Susan had an insatiable appetite for genealogy and compiled her family history dating back to the Middle Ages. She also loved to read, do puzzles, and tend to her garden. After retiring and moving back to Indiana, she reconnected with her high school sweetheart, Gary Clemons, and they married in 2005. She often said that marrying Gary was one of the best decisions she ever made, and she loved him more and more every day.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Clemons; children, David Rauch (Nataliya Grant), Sara (Todd) Green; grandchildren, Kendall Rauch (Leif Waldner), Natalie Rauch, Lauren Green, and Mallory Green; siblings John Jacobs, Dick Jacobs (Signe McLeod), and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Anne Jacobs Lowder.

Susan’s family would like to thank the entire staff of Marquette. A special thank you to the Health Center staff members for their loving, compassionate care of Susan.

Services will be 12:00pm Friday, September 4th, 2026 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Lynn M. Jameson officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery.
