Thomas Leroy Jones Sr.
May 25, 1939 — February 18, 2024
On Sunday, February 18, 2024, treasured husband, father, and grandfather Thomas Leroy Jones, Sr. entered the presence of his Savior and King. He was 84 years old.
Tom was born on May 25, 1939, in Dayton, OH. He grew up in West Alexandria, OH, several of those years on the family farm. He is a 1957 graduate of West Alexandria High School. He played both basketball and football as a West Alex Bulldog. Outside of three decades in West Alexandria, he was a resident of Richmond for six years, New Castle for 25 years, and Muncie for the last 23.
Tom worked in the beverage industry for 64 years. He started loading trucks in a warehouse, worked his way up to management, and even spent several years as part owner of a distributorship. Though there were multiple buyouts and name changes through the years, Tom represented RC Cola for the span of his career in both Ohio and central Indiana, mostly based in the New Castle/Spiceland distributorship. He retired on December 30, 2022, at the age of 83.
He was a man of few words and few loves. He was a hard worker and passed on an incredible work ethic. He was a jack of all trades…master of none. There wasn't much he wouldn't try to work on. Outside of his family and his work, he loved biscuits and gravy and pork chops. He enjoyed westerns and war movies, especially those that featured John Wayne. He was also a news junkie.
Tom is survived by his wife of nearly 49 years, Martha (Fuller) Jones; one son, Darryl Jones and his wife, Sharon; one daughter, Sarah Lawson and her husband, Bobby; eight grandchildren, Bobby Jones, Blake Jones, Brooke (Zach) Robertson, Brittany (Elijah) Van Hoecke, Brian (Sophia) Jones, Roz (Dylan) Morrison, Cole Martin, and Tara (Craig) Spencer; eight great-grandchildren; his twin sister, Mary Jane Wiegand; nieces and nephews.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Leroy and Dessie Marie (Jenkins) Jones; two sons, Thomas Leroy Jones, Jr. and Lawrence Wayne Jones; a grandson, James Andrew Jones; both maternal and fraternal grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
At Tom’s request, his family donated his body to science through Science Care of Chicago, IL. There will be no public services…the family will gather privately to mourn their loss and celebrate the life and legacy of their loved one.
