Thomas Lee Nelson, 75, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, January 21, 2019 at his residence. He was born April 9, 1943 in Washington DC a son of Thomas B. and Norvella (Ledbetter) Nelson.
Tom retired from CSX Railroad after 42 years of service and Knightstown Police Department where he served as chief of police for over 10 years. He was a member of Knightstown Fire Department and Knightstown Christian Church. He enjoyed hunting, guns, watching NASCAR, sports, mowing, traveling out west, coaching baseball and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sharon (Knott) Nelson; children, Anna Kathryn Stearns of Lewisville, Edward B. (Kristin) Manning of New Castle, Candace (David) Nelson Bush of Greenfield, Thomas Lee Nelson, II of Greenfield, Amanda (Doug) Nelson Barnhart of Greenfield; 18 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; brothers, Steve (Linda) Nelson of Knightstown and Dan (Debbie) Nelson of MS; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jayne Taylor; granddaughter, Cassandra Taylor; great grandson, Stephen Steward; brother, Ronald Nelson.
Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Anthony Darling officiating. Burial will follow Glen Cove Cemetery.
