Venetia G. Darby, 92, of Mooreland passed away Monday, October 13, 2025 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 10, 1933 in Carthage, Indiana.

Venetia attended Knightstown High School. She worked at DeBord’s Greenhouse in Mooreland for over 30 years and sold AVON for over 50 years. Venetia was a longtime member of the Mooreland First Christian Church and also the Gingham Gals Home Ec Club. She enjoyed knitting, cross stitching, word puzzles, and hosting holidays at her home, including Thanksgiving and Christmas every year. Venetia gave all of her family members a Christmas ornament every year.

She always looked forward to the Mooreland Fair, where she would once again host her family for vegetable soup followed by the parade every year. She will be remembered as a spunky, outgoing lady that wasn’t afraid of telling you like it was.

She is survived by a son, Douglas (Linda) Darby; a daughter, Debbie (John) Guffey; grandchildren, Kim (John) Hatcher, Nathan (Robin) Guffey, Matthew Guffey and Emily (Andrew) Frank; step grandchildren, Joseph Lee, Laurie Gosman and Jennifer Madewell; 7 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter; sisters, Evelyn Stockton and June; a brother, Richard Rumple and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, Raymond Rumple, she is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene F. Darby; an infant son, Stephen Darby and a sister, Dean.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to her friend and caregiver, Amanda Thompson.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Mooreland Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. You may express condolences or share a memory of Venetia at www.hinsey-brown.com.
