Virginia “Sally” B. Smith, 86, of Knightstown, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026. She was born on November 7, 1939, in Carthage, the daughter of the late Paul and Pauline Eva (DeWitt) Aker.

Sally was a hardworking and dedicated woman throughout her life. She was employed by RCA Electronics in Indianapolis for 28 years. In addition, she worked as a Tupperware sales consultant for 20 years, where she was very successful and earned numerous awards and trips for her achievements. She also served her community through her work with the United States Census for 13 years.

Sally was a graduate of Carthage High School. She was active in her community, serving as a coach for Little League girls’ softball for several years in Carthage and playing in the women’s softball league herself.

Family was extremely important to Sally. She especially cherished family reunions and took great joy in making Christmas special for everyone. She loved playing cards and board games, was an expert euchre player, and also enjoyed playing Sequence. Her interests included roller skating, camping trips to Nashville, Tennessee, listening to country music, and watching cowboy television shows.

Sally had a generous heart and often visited food pantries then distributed the food in the Carthage area to those in need. She was a faithful member of Kennard Baptist Church.

Sally is survived by her children, Jack (Lisa Neal)Grizzell of New Castle and Tammy Chew of Greenfield; grandchildren, Cheryl (Chad) Ogden of Williamsburg, Zachary (Natasha) Hamilton of New Castle, Wesley (Amanda) Hamilton of Knightstown, Josh Grizzell of Middletown, Ezekiel (Olivia) Hamilton of Fortville, Dale Chew of Williamsburg, Dalton Spuehler of Brownsburg and Danielle Spuehler of New Castle; brothers, Gene (Becky) Aker of Mississippi and Cliff (Linda) Aker of Indianapolis; several great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Smith; daughters, Debbie Catron, Cindy McGinnis, Judy Langley and Loretta Penn; siblings, Betty Daniel and Billy Aker.

Services will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Burial will follow in Asbury Cemetery in Morristown. Visitation will be from 11:00am until the time of service on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be given in Sally’s memory to the Knightstown Fire Department.
