Wanda Mae Reece, 86, of Middletown passed into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at her residence. She was born on October 28, 1937, in Maysville, KY, a daughter of the late Palmer and Laura Mae (Bayless) Bennett.
Being a loving mother and loving devoted wife of 54 years was most important to Wanda. She lived a love story with her husband, Jerry; they were inseparable. This story began when Wanda was employed as a cashier with Atlantic Pacific Tea Company, better known as A&P. Wanda’s boss at the time said, “take this young man out to lunch but bring him back. Well, Wanda decided to hold on to him; Wanda and Jerry were married on October 5, 1969.
Now keep in mind, the activities listed below, Wanda and Jerry did together, because they were inseparable. Wanda was a 20 plus year member of the Kennard Baptist Church; she loved her Lord and Savior. She enjoyed working in the yard, gardening, camping and especially fishing at Mt. Summit on the pontoon; she claimed to be the better fisherman between her and Jerry. She also enjoyed playing Euchre and Bingo and in her younger years riding motorcycles. In addition to her employment at A&P, Wanda had worked at the Safari Inn and Noble Romans, both of New Castle, Liebhardt Mills of Middletown, when she finally retired from working.
Wanda is survived by her husband, Jerry Reece; children, Charlotte Stone, Cathy Reece, Tammie Reece and Jerilynn Canaday; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her son, Terry Hays; siblings, Velma Covert and Clarence Bennett; niece, Brenda York; nephews, Eddie and Glenn Hampton; sister-in-law, Rosemary Bailey.
Services will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at the Kennard Baptist Church, 6931 W 100 S Shirley, IN 47384. Pastors Brent Weaver and Randall Morris will be officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition in New Castle. Visitation will be from 4:00pm-7:00pm Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Kennard Baptist Church or the charity of donor’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
