Wanda “Sissy” Jean West, 85, of New Castle, passed away on June 18, 2026, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. She was born on April 13, 1941, in Chauncey, WV, to the late William and Mayme (Norris) Parrish.
Wanda received her schooling from Sulphur Springs High School and was a longtime member of the Losantville United Methodist Church. She found fulfillment in service to others, dedicating much of her professional life to the field of food service. She worked first at Henry County Hospital, then continued serving at the state hospital, before concluding her career at the Indiana State Prison in Pendleton, from which she retired around 2001.
Wanda had a love for music and creative arts. She found joy in playing guitar, writing poetry and songs, and expressing herself through sewing and quilting. Her culinary skills brought family and friends together over home-cooked meals, and she delighted in canning food as well.
Family was the cornerstone of Wanda’s world. She cherished every moment spent with loved ones, often looking forward to vacations with her sisters and brother.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Barbara West, Roger (Chandra) West, and Ricky (Mary) West; grandchildren, Crystal (Bradley) Nelson, Craig Raegan, Courtney West, Heather West, Katie (Zach) Werking, Rachaelle (Andy) Hancock, Marissa Smith, and Kelly (Heather) Ballenger; great grandchildren, Mark Roudabaugh, Michael (Adriane) Roudabaugh, Mason Roudabaugh, Karmah Nelson, Harley Ballenger, Hezekiah Ballenger, Elexus (Luke) Dishroon, Hunter Thomas, Corbin Hancock, and Jaidan Hancock; great great grandchildren, Indy West and Faye Dishroon; siblings, Lois (Bill) Archey, Sue Coffee, Darlene Parrish, and David Parrish; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her loving husband, Irvin West; siblings, Pauline (Jimmy) Bell, Janice Halphin, Phyllis (Lee) Wilhelm, and Cletius (Sandy) Parrish; and her grandson, Tony Ballenger.
Services will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 1:00pm at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Willard Allred officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Summit Cemetery.
