William “Bill” Fredrick Smith, Jr., 69, of New Castle passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Sunday, May 1, 2022 at his residence. He was born September 25, 1952 in Steubenville, Ohio a son of the late William Fredrick, Sr. and Margaret (Martinez) Smith.
A 1970 graduate of Steubenville High School. He had been employed by US Steel in Fairfield, Alabama for 10 years, also First Energy in Stratton, Ohio, before retiring in 2012. Bill attended Charity Baptist Church, he loved the Lord and loved to sing. He enjoyed golf, working on Hot Rods, an avid Alabama Football fan “Roll Tide”and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. Bill was a double lung transplant recipient in 2017. He loved making his World Famous Meatballs and would never share the recipe with anyone and always said he would take it to his grave with him.
Survivors include his wife, Janene Smith; children, Amy Smith Frye, Allan (Erica) Smith, Stevan Smith, Keshia (Craig) Wampler and Ian (Hannah) Polston; grandchildren, Devin Frye, Preston Smith, Liam Smith, Carter Atwood, Owen Atwood and Augustine Polston; a twin sister, Peggy Smith and his dog Roxy, who was at his side when he passed.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Rick Cross officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition along with Bill’s World Famous Meatball recipe. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm. Friday at the funeral home.
