Wilma “Nadine” Dalton, 91, of New Castle, passed away peacefully at her home on June 5, 2025. She was born on November 27, 1933, in Albany, KY, to the late Selbert and Ermon (Hayes) Byers.
Nadine was the oldest girl of ten children, naturally stepping into a motherly role that she embraced with grace and devotion. Her home was a sanctuary, always open to anyone in need, where she earned the affectionate title of "Grandma Nadine" to countless friends and family members alike. Her faith in God was strong and she attended Foursquare Gospel Church.
Nadine was known for her feisty spirit, quick wit, and infectious sense of humor. Her loving nature and determination were evident to all who knew her. She was strong-willed and fiercely loyal, qualities that endeared her to those fortunate enough to call her family and friend. She found immense joy in music, particularly country, bluegrass, and gospel genres, often teaching herself to play a variety of stringed instruments by ear. Her love for music not only filled her life with happiness but also resonated within the hearts of those around her. Nadine also cherished the game nights spent playing cards, especially Rook and Euchre, where laughter and good-natured competition created lasting memories.
Cooking was more than just a hobby for Nadine; it was her love language. Each meal was infused with care and a desire to nurture those she loved, creating delicious meals that will forever be fondly remembered.
Nadine's heart swelled with pride and joy when she spoke of her grandson Josh and his wife Kristin, as well as her great-granddaughters Olivia, Mallory, and Emma. She reveled in the stories and achievements of her grandchildren, sharing them with an enthusiasm that made everyone feel the warmth of her joy.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Janice (David) Ford of New Castle; grandson, Josh (Kristin) Owens of New Castle; three great-granddaughters, Olivia, Mallory, and Emma Owens; siblings, Lois (Bobby) Thrasher, Weldon (Marilyn) Byers, Earl (Susan) Byers, and Mary (Larry) Brown, all of Albany, KY; several nieces and nephews; and beloved dog, Bailey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 70 years, Don “Dolly” Dalton; siblings, JT Byers, Arthur Byers, Betty Piercy, Elaine Craft, and Stevie Byers.
