Bruce Kent Cable

August 30, 1951 — May 5, 2024

New Castle

Bruce Kent Cable, 72, of New Castle went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 5, 2024, while an inpatient at AMG Hospital in Greenfield. He was born August 30, 1951, in New Castle a son of the late Earl and Mary (Scales) Cable.

Bruce graduated from Walter P. Chrysler High School in 1969, where he excelled in Cross Country, Track, Football and Wrestling. He went to the Regionals in all of those sports. He graduated from Ivy Tech and Ball State and received several certificates for Electronics and Robotics.

He taught at Blue River, Ivy Tech, Spoon River College, IL, Clark College in Indianapolis, and worked for New Castle School Corporation. An avid reader, Bruce never stopped learning! He continually studied and was an advocate for equal rights for all people. He was an Advisor for H.A.S. (Handicapped Awareness Support Group) at Ivy Tech, a CASA volunteer, and a member of the New Castle Kiwanis.  He was happy to be affiliated with Macer-Hall Funeral Home for over 30 years.

Bruce was a mentor and support group leader for people who were confined to a wheelchair. He would talk them through and support them as they faced the challenges of being in a wheelchair. He never let his wheelchair stop him from doing what he wanted to do and doing it the way everyone else did it!

A member of the First United Methodist Church in New Castle, he had played the bass guitar (which he taught himself to play) in the Praise Band. He also played bass guitar in the Christian band, Sin No More Band. He loved participating in the March of Dimes Walk-A-Thons, many times completing 20 miles, finishing with blistered hands from his wheelchair wheels.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 32 years, Janet L. Cable of New Castle; children, Brandy of Anderson, John of New Castle, Janna of New Castle; a step-daughter, Jama; grandchildren, Tyler, Bailey, Sophia, and Teagan; three step-grandchildren; sisters, Luana Pitts of Mooreland, Karen (David) Cable Gregory of rural New Castle; brothers, Rod (Paulette) Cable of Crown Point, and Randy (Suzanna) Cable of Indianapolis; his best friend, Sam Hall of New Castle; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Eldon Pitts on April 1, 2024.
